New Science Center

New Science Center Grand Opening

The New Science Center (NSC) at Centralia College has received a certificate of occupancy, literally opening the door for the use of the cutting-edge science complex by students in a variety of studies. The community had its chance to view the grand new science facility when the Centralia College Foundation hosted an open house on April 16. Read the news release. »

The Science Center is located at the corner of Washington Avenue and Walnut Street in Centralia. The three-story structure is the largest building on the college campus. The NSC was conceived to help reverse a regional and national trend of too few science majors joining the country's research labs and production work forces. In an effort to education students in science, technology, engineering, and math, known as STEM science fields, the college successfully sought and obtained funding for the new center. It is a facility that will help meet the demanding challenges of the STEM initiative for many years into the future.

In addition to the core STEM fields, the new center will also house portions of other science disciplines such as Energy Technology, Allied Health Sciences, academic science requirements, and other science-based learning. The NSC is a modern 70,000 square-foot complex built to the highest sustainability and energy standards and will efficiently serve the region for many years to come. The $32 million structure was planned to accommodate virtually every science and related instructional demand the college could foresee.
